Be My Valentine...You Rock!

Happy (Almost) Valentine’s Day! I was asked by Marcus from Fusion Of Effects to contribute Valentine’s Day art to Dolce & Gabbana’s online magazine, Swide. Fun! This sassy lass goes out to my husband of almost 12 years, Dennis Hayes. He rocks. You can check out the V-Day piece and a little Q&A here! I hope you all have a super lovey-dovey Valentine’s Day filled with everything your hearts desire! xoxo

A Primetime Classic…”Frill And Lace!”, Tadashi Shoji F/W 2012

"Frill And Lace!"

I wanted to illustrate some new runway looks today in between my regular client deadlines…and I came across this piece of awesomeness by Tadashi Shoji! Lace-like cutout fabric, sequins, tulle- a whole pile of girly goodness in a shimmery black dress! Add this to my wish-list! xoxo

120 Illustrations in 15 Days!

January 26th, 2012

Fruit Stripe Yum!

So where have I been the past few weeks? Painting, painting & more painting! In late December I got a call from Edelman PR asking me if I was available to do 100 Rock The Runway sketches for an event that T.J. Maxx/Marshalls was having here in the city on January 25th. They’re unveiling their S/S 2012 collection to fashion editors, and thought that original fashion illustrations would make a great gift for the guests.

Awesome- I work fast; I can do it! Anyway, after all was said & done, I got the trend doc a little over two weeks before the event & had to go into 24/7 painting mode- I didn’t leave the studio for 2 weeks, except to walk Tweak. Thank goodness I can get anything I want delivered, like Earl Grey Tea in bulk!

I spent part of the first day trimming paper to 8″ x 10″, then trying to figure out how to paint that small- all of my art is 11″ x 17″ or larger…I needed to get lots of detail & expressive line into such a tiny space! But after lots of trial & error, my triple-zero brush started working its magic & it was on!

So, I painted and napped for two weeks straight, then got an email on Friday night from my contact, Juli (a super nice, bubbly, quick-to-respond girl who made it very easy to take on this project!) asking if there was any way I could do 20 more illustrations since the event RSVPs were coming in fast & furious. Of course I had to say yes- they couldn’t have empty gift bags!

So with extra Earl Grey in hand, I painted 24/7 until they were all finished & delivered this morning! It was the craziest project I’ve ever worked on- a new personal record for that amount of art in such little time.

All 120 will be posted on my site over the coming week & unveiled on my facebook page throughout the coming months, along with photos of the event. Thanks to everyone who cheered me on & made awesome music mixes for me to paint to all night long!

Now I’m going to take another nap & get back to my regularly scheduled art- a NYC property map, more Zubrick Magic & TONS of new fun projects I can’t wait to share with you guys! xoxo

Better Late Than Never…”Life Of The Party!” Happy 2012!

January 4th, 2012

Happy 2012!

I meant to post this over the weekend, but this party girl was only half-finished! I got caught up in an array of wonderful holiday projects, client deadlines & family visits…I wasn’t able to finish her up before I left for my own New Year’s Eve fun! So, here she is, the “Life Of The Party!”, all decked out in vintage YSL, ready to go! I hope you all had a super night, made some resolutions you’re gonna keep & have a healthy, happy, awesomeness-to-the-brim 2012! You made my year & I’m looking forward to tons of new fashionable projects to share with you guys! Love You! xoxo

Amusement Lark…”Merry-Go-Astound!”

January 3rd, 2012

Merry-Go-Astound!

I painted this Christmas present for my friend Abby’s daughter. Her name is Astrid, she’s in first grade, into girly stuff & her room is painted cotton candy pink. Awesome! I decided to go with inspiration from the Louis Vuitton S/S 2012 show- I thought the carousel backdrop was perfect for somebody Astrid’s age, while still being totally high fashion. And you can’t go wrong with a pink & yellow flowery frock! I’m thinking it’s a piece that she’ll appreciate now, as well as when she’s older. Merry Merry! xo

Photos & Recap of the Lion’esque Style/Yelp Giftacular Live-Sketching Event!

Lilya Live Sketching!

I had such a fun time at the Lion’esque Media/Yelp Giftacular earlier this December. I sketched pretty much non-stop for eight hours since the place was jam-packed with shoppers! I can write a small novel about it, but Brandon over at Would You Rock This? did an amazing recap featuring lots of pictures & illustrations. Check it out here and stay tuned for more live- sketching events! xoxo

Rise and Shine…’Golden Girl’

December 9th, 2011

Golden Girl, Chanel Pre-Fall 2012

Karl Lagerfeld delivered a feast for the eyes with this gorgeously embellished collection for Pre-Fall. Inspired by the extravagance & elegance of India, these pieces are definitely something that any fashion illustrator would be delighted to sketch. I chose this gold on gold on gold look for its seasonal festivity…though I have a feeling this won’t be the last piece I sketch from this collection! xoxo
